- Add the student's name. Replace every [Student] placeholder with the pupil's first name. This simple change immediately makes the comment feel personal and specific.

Can I use these maths comments in a UK school report?
Yes — they are written for UK reporting, in British English, using the vocabulary a British parent expects: pupil rather than student, term rather than semester, and attainment bands rather than letter grades. Replace [Student] with the child's first name and adjust the pronouns.
How long should a maths report comment be?
Most UK schools allow between 40 and 80 words per subject, and the comments on this page sit in that range deliberately. If your school's template is shorter, keep the first sentence and the target and drop the middle example.
What do I write for a pupil who is struggling in maths?
Use the Working Towards section above. The pattern that works is: name one thing the pupil can do, name the specific skill that is not secure yet, then give one concrete next step. Avoid comparisons with classmates and avoid anything a parent could read as a judgement about the child rather than the work.
Is it acceptable to reuse report comments?
